SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is an FDA-approved prescription nasal spray used to treat certain adults with treatment-resistant depression and certain adults with major depressive disorder (MDD).SPRAVATO® works differently from many traditional antidepressants by acting on the brain’s glutamate system. Treatment takes place in a certified healthcare setting under the supervision of a trained healthcare provider, with monitoring following each treatment.

SPRAVATO® is FDA-approved for adults with:Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) — depression that has not improved enough after trying other antidepressant treatments.Major depressive disorder (MDD) with suicidal thoughts or actions — SPRAVATO® is used in conjunction with an oral antidepressant for this indication. Not everyone with depression is a candidate for SPRAVATO®. Our psychiatric provider will review your symptoms, treatment history, medications, and overall health to determine whether SPRAVATO® may be an appropriate treatment option for you.

Yes. Like all medications, SPRAVATO® can cause side effects. Common side effects include dissociation (feeling disconnected from yourself or your surroundings), dizziness, nausea, sleepiness, increased blood pressure, headache, anxiety, and a spinning sensation. If common side effects occur, they typically begin shortly after treatment and resolve the same day.Because SPRAVATO® can cause sedation, dissociation, respiratory depression, and other side effects, treatment is provided through the SPRAVATO® REMS Program. At CPW, you will be closely monitored throughout your treatment, including for at least two hours after receiving SPRAVATO®, and our trained healthcare team is available to address any concerns that arise.

SPRAVATO® treatment is currently offered at Center for Personal Wellness on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with morning and afternoon treatment times available.SPRAVATO® is a nasal spray that you self-administer under the supervision of our trained healthcare team. Treatment takes place in a dedicated SPRAVATO® treatment space designed to feel comfortable and relaxing, with reclining chairs and a privacy screen to provide separation when more than one patient is receiving treatment.During your visit, you can relax, listen to music with headphones, or simply rest while our team monitors you throughout your treatment. Live video monitoring is also used for safety, but nothing is recorded, and a member of our team is available throughout your treatment and monitoring period.

Plan to be at Center for Personal Wellness for approximately 2¼ to 2½ hours for each SPRAVATO® treatment.SPRAVATO® is administered in a series of nasal spray devices, with a five-minute rest between each device. After administration is complete, you will remain at CPW for at least two hours of monitoring while our team monitors your vital signs, symptoms, and how you are feeling.Before you leave, our team will make sure you are clinically stable and ready for discharge. Some patients may need to remain longer than two hours for monitoring based on how they are feeling after treatment.

No. You will need to arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home after each SPRAVATO® treatment. You may drive yourself to your appointment if you are otherwise able to drive safely, but you cannot drive yourself home after receiving SPRAVATO®.You should not drive, operate machinery, or participate in activities requiring full alertness until the next day, after a restful night’s sleep.Please make transportation arrangements before arriving for your appointment. If you do not have a safe ride home, we will not be able to administer your SPRAVATO® treatment.

Insurance coverage for SPRAVATO® varies by plan, and prior authorization is typically required before treatment begins. Our team will verify your individual benefits, help coordinate the prior authorization process, and discuss your expected coverage with you before treatment begins.Center for Personal Wellness participates with many major insurance plans, including commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE. Coverage for SPRAVATO® depends on your individual plan, medical necessity requirements, and authorization criteria.As part of the authorization process, we may need information about your previous depression treatments, relevant medical records, and completion of a depression symptom questionnaire.
